Living on an island, you learn how to become self-reliant in many ways. Hatteras, NC is no different. It has its challenges when you want to always be outdoors and enjoying life. Oh, the things you can do on Hatteras Island; from camping, fishing, boating, hiking, horseback riding, surfing, paddle boarding...the list goes on of the wonders of the outdoors on Hatteras Island. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has her way of letting you know who's the boss of the outside world...HER. So what do you do? You work with her. She gives you a problem but also gives you the solution...if you look. That's what I did at StoneAgers Farms and Nellie May Farms in Hatteras. I love my gardens and my chickens, they have become a lifeline with the price of vegetables and eggs hitting all time highs. The problem Mother Nature gave me was the clouds of mosquitos that await me as I step out the door. I couldn't even get to my Hen Den in the early mornings to let my girls out without literally breathing in the swarms of bugs that would attack me. Being covered and bitten by these pests took all the fun out of gardening and spending time with my chickens. Nothing seemed to work well enough for me to stay outside and so my gardens died and my chickens saw much less of me.
Using pesticides or other toxic chemicals wasn't an option because I like to hug my girls and carry them around the farm, which would be deadly to them and, in the long-run, not real good for me either. Besides, I'm a kid magnet and I can't imagine dousing children with the stuff that is out there today. I tried all the usual topical sprays and ointments only to be let down with oily, smelly skin and feeling the need for a shower. Since moving was not an option, I went to the drawing board to create my own defense against these blood-thirsty pests determined to rob me of my outdoor life...and my blood.
To be honest, I don't like to kill anything, so killing these guys was not an option, I just wanted to repel them and keep them away so I could go about my daily outdoor life, whether it be outside chores, fishing or crabing off my backyard, gardening or enjoying a cocktail on the deck with my girls.
My mission was to create an all-natural product that would not harm me as I tried to keep the bugs from harming me. I didn't want to have to choose between two evils. So...after about two long years of trial and error, I finally came up with a product that not only keeps the bugs at bay, but is also good for your skin. In fact, if you DO find yourself getting bitten before you use Adiós! Mo Skitos, you can just spray it on your bites and it will immediately relieve the itching, thanks to the peppermint oil and witch hazel. We have been elated about how the alcohol-free witch hazel is an anti-microbial and may help control acne so it's a great option for teens or people with oily skin.
My hard work has rewarded me with such a wonder that I felt compelled to share it with our neighbors, friends and co-workers on our island. And now I want to share it with you.
I source my oils from all over the world to bring my family, friends and customers some of the most high- quality products on the market today, extracted only from the all-natural plants Mother Nature has given us. Adiós! Mo Skitos! may cost a little more than the mass-produced competition, but in the long run, putting cheap toxic chemicals on your body for your skin to absorb may be more dangerous than the bug bite itself and may exact a cost that, in the long run , nobody wants to pay.
So, pick up a bottle or two of Adiós! Mo Skitos! and keep your plasma to yourself!
Thank you Carol Lanshe for all your wisdom and support...just when I needed it most!
Mother Nature put these little pests in this world and she can take them out. She showed us how, with plants and oils grown in her garden, we can enjoy what she made for us to enjoy... The Great Outdoors! So please, go enjoy!
